This is a really important question, but at the moment we don’t really know.

We are slowly increasing the number of people who reside in low Earth orbit, and are looking to returning to the moon, and travelling to Mars in the coming decades. This is increasing the chances that someone will become injured in space, possibly even needing surgery.

At the moment there are experiments being performed aboard the International Space Station on tissue samples to see how low gravity effects their ability to repair.

At this point though, we don’t really know.
