When I was picking my AS level choices, after selecting physics, chemistry, maths and further maths I was pretty limited in options from the way my school’s timetable was set up. My first choice would have been French, but sadly the only option I had that followed on from my GCSE choices (and wasn’t biology, which I really wasn’t keen on) was English literature.
In the end, I actually really enjoyed it, and it turns out that the essay writing techniques that I learnt have been really useful when writing scientific reports and papers.
Honestly, I’ve never really considered a career outside of science and technology – I feel like my brain is certainly wired to that way of thinking rather than something more creative like English literature!
